Alexander is a town in Genesee County, New York. It is considered part of the Western New York region and is located approximately forty miles east of downtown Buffalo. , the town population was 2,500. Within the town is a village named Alexander and a small part of the village of Attica. The town also encompasses the hamlets of Brookville, East Alexander, West Bethany, and Ray.

The main roads in Alexander are New York State Route 98 (Alexander Road) and US Route 20 (Broadway Road). These roads intersect each other in the center of town. NYS-98 heads north-south and US-20 runs east-west. As NYS-98 approaches the northern town boundary it passes through the hamlet of North Alexander. It then continues out of town towards the city of Batavia. These two roads generate most of the town’s traffic violations. A typical ticket is where a motorist fails to slow down from 55 mph when entering the Village of Alexander.
Any traffic ticket issued in town is made answerable to the Alexander Town Court (Town of Alexander Justice Court). The court is located in the Alexander Town Hall. This cobblestone building was erected in the 1830’s. It is even more unique because it is one of very few cobblestone structures to reach three stories high. In 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
