Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1125(a)1 is a rarely cited violation. It relates to the requirements to keep to the right. It puts additional requirements on motorists to stay away from the left-hand lane when a curve or a hill limits the driver’s view. A plea of guilty or a conviction will put three points on your New York State driver’s license. The exact fine is up to the judge, with the maximum being $243 for a first-time offense. With this violation on your record you can expect to pay higher car insurance rates.
§ 1125. Further limitations on driving to left of center of roadway. (a) No vehicle shall at any time be driven to the left side of the roadway under the following conditions:

In New York State, motorists can retain an attorney to handle their traffic ticket. Your attorney can file the Not Guilty plea and make any necessary court appearances in your place. Your ticket can be dismissed or reduced without you having to leave your home. There are two things to look for when retaining an attorney for your traffic ticket: (1) The percentage of the law firm’s practice that is dedicated to traffic ticket defense. It should be at least 75%. (2) If the attorney is local to the court that has jurisdiction of the violation. Some courts are very rural and it may be hard pressed to find a local attorney, especially one that practices Traffic Law. In other more urban areas, there are dozens of lawyers that fight traffic tickets.
