Carrollton is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York. The town is in the Western New York region and sits on the northern border of Pennsylvania. The hamlet of Limestone serves as the downtown of Carrollton. As of July 1, 2020, the town population was 1,356.
The US-219 (“Pittsburgh-Buffalo Highway”) continues from Pennsylvania and goes north-south through Carrollton. The speed limit for the most part is 55 mph and the road is straight and usually traffic-free. When the highway goes through Limestone, the speed limit drops from 55 mph to 40 mph. Motorists often do not notice the reduced speed or slow down sufficiently. Most traffic stops on this road are conducted by Cattaraugus County Sheriffs.
