Conewango is a rural townin Cattaraugus County, New York. It is in the Western New York Region near the New York-Pennsylvania border.. As of December of 2021, the town population was 1,835. The town area was initially settled around 1816 and formally established in 1823. Conewango covers approximately thirty-five square miles, and passing through town is a creek also named Conewango. A number of hamlets make up the town such as Axeville, Clear Creek, Conewango Valley, and Elm Creek.
