The busiest road in Dayton is the US-Route 62 (US-62). It is the road one would use to travel between Buffalo and areas in Cattaraugus County. It runs north and south as it zigzags through the center town area. After reaching Markhams, it is laid flat and straight as it heads south past the town line. The most common reason for a traffic stop on US-62 is for a speeding violation, most frequently in the area south of Markhams. Another road worth mentioning is New York State Route 353 (NYS-353) , which runs through the north-east corner of town. It connects to US-62 in the Hamlet of Dayton.

Along the town’s western boundary runs County Route 2 (Cottage Road). CR-2 runs north and south through the hamlet of Cottage and the village of South Dayton.

Entering from the west and running through the village is New York State Route 322 (Pine Street). As it leaves South Dayton and heads east, it becomes Dexter Corners Road. NYS-322 connects to US-62 in the south part of town. The most common ticket issued on NYS-322 is speeding. Motorists tend to get stopped after they enter the village boundary. The speed limit in South Dayton is 30 miles per hour.

There are two courts in Dayton. One is for the town, and one is for the village, South Dayton. The South Dayton Village Court only adjudicates traffic offenses that originate inside the village. The Town Court handles the remaining area in town. The town and village do not employ a local law enforcement agency. Instead, tickets are issued by the New York State Police and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department.
