Geneseo is a town in Livingston County, New York. The eastern side of the town is the shore of Conesus Lake. There is also a Village of Geneseo contained entirely within the Town of Geneseo. The population between the town and village is around eleven thousand, with most people living in the village.
The Village of Geneseo is the county seat of Livingston County, which means it is home to the county government offices. The village center is a historic district due its well-preserved 19th century streetscape. Most notably, the village is home to State University of New York at Geneseo, considered one of the top SUNY Schools. Most residents are employed or affiliated with the university and Geneseo is considered a “college town.”
The Genesee Expressway (I-390) is an interstate highway through Geneseo. US-20A (Lakeville Road) also passes through the town. New York State Route 39 (Avon Road), New York State Route 63 (Genesee Street), and New York State Route 256 (West Lake Road) are north-south routes
The SUNY campus has its own University Police. The Village of Geneseo also has its own police department. The town is policed by New York State Police or Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
