Traffic Tickets in Hinsdale, New York
All traffic tickets issued in Hinsdale are adjudicated in the Town of Hinsdale Justice Court. This court is otherwise not a busy court because Hinsdale is a rural town with a low crime rate. However, the court handles a large volume of traffic violations. This is because a large portion of the I-86 (Southern Tier Expressway) passes diagonally through the town. The typical citation issued on the I-86 is for speeding, where the motorist is charged with exceeding the 65 mile per hour speed limit. New York State Police patrol the Expressway.
Some traffic stops occur on the local town roads as well. The main street in town is New York State Route 16, which runs north-south. Route 16 has two lanes in each direction. The speed limit on the route is 55 mph for the most part, but is reduced when the road goes through more developed areas.
