The I-90 (The New York State Thruway) passes through the northern portion of town as it runs along the edge of Lake Erie. Most traffic charges originate from the interstate, but traffic stops are conducted on the local roads as well. Running parallel on either side of the I-90 is New York State Route 5 (Lake Road) and US Route 20. The latter serves as the town’s main road. New York State Route 76 (South State Street) intersects with US-20. NYS-76 connects the smaller hamlet of Wattlesburg with the main residential area. In the south town area, County Route 6 (Northeast Sherman Road) runs east-west and serves the remaining rural communities.
The New York State Police monitor the Thruway regularly and often issue tickets for speeding. On the local roads, most traffic stops are conducted by the Town of Ripley Police Department. All traffic infractions alleged to have been committed within the town boundaries are made answerable to the Ripley Town Court.
