Salamanca is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York. It is located approximately sixty miles south of the City of Buffalo and approximately ten miles north of the Pennsylvania State line. It is considered part of the Western New York region.
The Town of Salamanca mostly surrounds the City of Salamanca, which is more well known and more populated., the town had an estimated 500 residents. In a geographic quirk, the town is made up of three sections that are not connected to each other. The city is shaped like an upside-down “T”. The three parts of the town are on the three sides of the “T” . You need to cross through the city to get to any of the other two parts of the town.

Its southern terminus is downtown of the City of Salamanca. It leads motorists through the town of Salamanca in a northwest direction towards the towns of Little Valley and Dayton, the latter being its northern terminus. The town of Salamanca does not have its own police department. They receive police services from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. Both are authorized to issue citations upon probable cause of a traffic violation. All town traffic tickets are made answerable to the Town of Salamanca Justice Court. The court is located within the Town Hall structure at the intersection of North State Street and New York State Route 353. This court should not be confused with the Salamanca City Court.
