South Valley, New York
South Valley is the name of a town in Cattaraugus County, New York. It is located in the southwestern corner of the state, along the Pennsylvania State line, around eighty miles south of Buffalo. The closest large city is Erie, Pennsylvania, which is around seventy miles west. Most of the town is the South Valley State Forest. The Allegheny River runs through the town, cutting off a small eastern portion from the rest of the town. The town was settled by Quaker missionaries in 1798 and had a bustling lumber economy that peaked in 1890. At that time, the town’s population was over 1,000. , the estimated population was just 250.
