Warsaw is a town and village in Wyoming County, New York. The village is located within the town. The total population is over five thousand with most people living in the village. The county government offices are located in the village. Warsaw is equidistant between the cities of Buffalo and Rochester.
New York State Route 19 (North Main Street/South Main Street) is the main north-south route through the town. US 20A (West Buffalo Street) runs east-west through Warsaw. This road is one the most infamous “speed traps” in Western New York. Motorists traveling between Buffalo/Niagara and Central New York are routinely led by their GPS to the 20A instead of the less direct I-90.
The speed limit on most of the 20A is 55 mph but drops when entering more densely populated areas. When the 20A enters the Village of Warsaw the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph, but motorists very often fail to heed the signs. The Village of Warsaw Police Department patrol the area and stop numerous motorists for speeding.
