LeRoy is a town in Genesee County, New York. It is located around thirty miles southwest of Rochester. Inside the town is a village named LeRoy. The village is in the center of the town and is the main population area. Town offices and most businesses are in the village. LeRoy also encompasses two hamlets, Fort Hill and Lime Rock. , the total population was estimated at 7,600.
LeRoy was first settled in 1793. In 1812, the settlement obtained its township status. It originally went by a different name: “Bellona”. In 1813, the name was changed to “LeRoy” after New York City merchant and landowner, Herman LeRoy. LeRoy has quite the history. It is home to the Jell-O gelatin dessert and the Jell-O Museum.
