Ridgeway is the name of a town in Orleans County, New York. It is considered part of the Western New York region and is around forty miles west of the City of Niagara Falls. , Ridgeway had a total population of about 6,500. The town is mostly farmland and covers a total area of fifty square miles. Ridgeway consists of several hamlets and part of one village. The hamlets are Jeddo, Knowlesville, North Ridgeway, Ridgeway, and West Ridgeway. The village is Medina. Its north section falls under Ridgeway’s jurisdiction. The southern half is within Shelby.

The town’s main road is New York State Route 104 (Ridge Road). This road runs east and west across Ridgeway’s mid-section. It passes through the hamlets of Jeddo, Oak Orchard, and the smaller community of West Gaines. Heading north and south through Ridgeway is New York State Route 63 (Lyondonville Road/North Gravel Road). This road intersects NYS-104 in the middle of town. Taking this road south will bring you to the Village of Medina. Taking it north brings you to the neighboring Village of Lyndonville. NYS-63 is one of Medina’s main roadways. The other would be New York State Route 31 (NYS-31). It follows the southern boundary heading east and west. NYS-31 intersects NYS-63 in the village square.
The town does not have a dedicated police department. Any traffic violation issued in the town will be written by the New York State Police or the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office. There is an exception to this, however. Traffic citations issued in the Village of Medina can be written by the Medina Village Police. They issue tickets answerable to the Ridgeway Town Court and Shelby Town Court. The exact location of the alleged violation will determine which town court has jurisdiction over the case.
