Traffic Tickets in Wellsville, New York
Wellsville does not have its own police department. They obtain police coverage from Troop “A” of the New York State Police and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Both are authorized to conduct traffic stops upon probable cause of a traffic violation. Most traffic tickets are issued on the main roads of the town and village. From the south, Stannards Road (NYS-19/NYS-195) comes up from the Pennsylvania State line. From the north, it comes down from Lake Ontario and wanders through towns in the Finger Lakes region. The main east-west route in town is NYS-417 (Bolivar Road/Andover Road). For the most part, the speed limit on these roads is 55 mph. As they enter the village of Wellsville, the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. The often turns into a speed trap for motorists not familiar with the area.
There are technically two courts, the town court and village court. Each share the same physical location. The court that handles the case depends on the location of the underlying cause of action. If in the village, then it goes to the village court. Anything outside the village goes to the town court. Both the town court and the village court handle traffic tickets that were issued on their respective roads.
