Tonawanda is a city in Erie County, New York. It is north of the City of Buffalo. The Town of Tonawanda separates the two cities. The city is considered part of the Buffalo Metropolitan area. As of June of 2023, the city population was estimated at 15,000. The city is bordered on the south and the east by the Town of Tonawanda. To the north it is bordered by the City of North Tonawanda. To the west of the city is the Niagara River. Across the river is the Town of Grand Island.
